Curious brews at MKT

Curious Brews is a monthly science talk series that brings local researchers out of the lab and into a bar, where the questions flow as freely as the drinks.

This month, U of A engineering professor Dr. Rashid Mirzavand looks at a future without dead batteries. His team builds tiny wireless sensors that power themselves on radio waves from a nearby reader, then bounce their data back like a mirror catching sunlight.

Since they never need charging, these sensors can be sealed inside clothing, couch cushions, or the walls of a building. His lab has already tested them on aircraft icing, room monitoring, and wearables.

Arrive early for drinks and food in the upstairs lounge at MKT, stay for the talk and Q&A, and pitch your own ideas for where the tech could go next. Ages 18+.
