Listing Guidelines
Everything you need to know before you send us an event.
We're a curated guide to what's happening in Edmonton — not an open-post calendar. That means we read every submission, we write our own copy, and we don't list everything.
What we list
Public events happening in Edmonton and the surrounding region (St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Leduc, Beaumont, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Saskatchewan, Devon, and nearby communities).
Good fits include:
Festivals and street parties
Concerts, DJ nights, and live comedy
Markets, pop-ups, and food events
Cooking classes and workshops
Theatre, dance, film, and gallery openings
Sports, races, and outdoor recreation
Community fundraisers, family days, and seasonal celebrations
Free and under-$25 things to do (we run a dedicated guide for these — flag it if yours qualifies)
Ticketed or free, one night or ten days — both work. What matters is that a stranger could show up and get in.
What we don't list
Private, invite-only, or members-only gatherings
Ongoing business hours, permanent attractions, or "we're open every day" promotions with no actual event attached
Online-only events with no real Edmonton connection
MLM, recruitment, and sales pitches dressed up as workshops
Anything hateful, discriminatory, harassing, or promoting harm
Events that break the law or lack the permits/licences they need
Submissions we can't verify — no venue, no date, no working link, no listing
We also reserve the right to decline anything that isn't a fit, without explanation. Nothing personal.
How to submit
Send it through the contact form or email hello@edmonton.events with the event name in the subject line.
Lead time: Earlier is better, especially for anything with a ticket link.
Our deadlines, roughly:
Weekend Guide — lock in Tuesday for that weekend
Monthly Guides — lock in before the month begins
Festivals and major events — send them as soon as dates are public
What to include
Copy this into your email. Missing details are the number one reason an event doesn't make it in.
Required
Event name and full description
Date(s) — including every day of a multi-day run
Start and end time
Venue name and full street address
Price (or "free") — ticket tiers and door price if they differ
Ticket or registration link
One or two sentences on what actually happens
Please include if it applies
Age restriction (18+, 19+, all ages, licensed venue)
Accessibility: step-free entry, accessible washrooms, seating, ASL, quiet spaces
Parking, transit, or entrance quirks
Cash-only, appointment-only, RSVP required, sold-out dates
Rain plan or weather cancellation policy
Media contact name, email, and phone
Images
One or two landscape photos, minimum 1200px wide, JPG or PNG, under 5MB
AI generated generic graphic posters will not be accepted
Real photos beat posters — text-heavy graphics get cropped badly on mobile
You must own the image or have permission to share it, and by sending it you're giving us the go-ahead to use it in our listings, guides, newsletter, and social posts, with credit where you tell us to
How we write your listing
We write everything in our own voice. We don't republish press releases, and we won't copy and paste your description — even a great one. Expect us to cut, sharpen, and add the practical stuff a reader needs (price, timing, whether they need to book).
A few things worth knowing:
We may add context you didn't send us, including notes on cost, crowds, or accessibility.
Submitting doesn't guarantee a listing. A paid listing puts you on the calendar — it doesn't buy a spot in the newsletter, a guide feature, or our social feed. Those stay editorial. We have low-cost local campaigns available to reach our hyper-local connected audience.
Spot a mistake? Email us and we'll fix it fast.
