CURIOUS BREWS: Axel Heiberg Island Ice Core Expedition

  • 8101 Gateway Boulevard Northwest Edmonton, Alberta, T6E 3X8 Canada (map)

Beer in hand, deepest ice core in Canadian history on the screen.

Curious Brews hosts its monthly science lecture series at MKT Fresh Food | Beer Market on Tuesday, September 8, from 6 to 9 PM, featuring Dr. Alison Criscitiello, ice core scientist and Director of the Canadian Ice Core Lab at U of A.

Dr. Criscitiello takes the room behind the scenes of her team's Axel Heiberg Island expedition, where they partnered with Danish scientists on the deepest ice core drilling ever done in Canada. Expect a look at preliminary findings on sea ice and climate history, and why the race is on to pull these frozen archives before they melt.

Social hour and drinks kick off at 6, lecture and Q&A run 7 to 8, then door prizes and networking close out the night. 18+, free parking, note the venue's upstairs lounge is stairs-only. Events sell out regularly.
