Foote in the Door Productions stages a new adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta by playwright R.A. Shiomi, who moves the action to Edwardian England.
The story is a pile-up of mistaken identities, unlikely romances and absurd laws, with a cast of schemers trying to dodge the consequences of their own decisions. Shiomi’s version keeps the wordplay and the well-known score while reworking the classic for today’s audiences.
Russ Farmer directs, with music direction by Heidi Schwonik and Ruth Wong-Miller and choreography by Julia Stanski. The show is all ages, and works for longtime G&S fans as well as first-timers.
