Award-winning author Yasuko Thanh joins host Leslie Vermeer to discuss Pizza Before We Die: An Eyewitness Account in Gaza.
The book began as Reddit posts from Hassan Kanafani, an ordinary Gaza resident documenting daily life as war tore through his community. Three activists started collecting his posts, hoping to share his story and raise funds for him.
The posts eventually reached Thanh, who worked with Hassan to shape them into a book. The result is a first-hand account of hunger, survival, and loss, told not by a correspondent but by someone living through it, at a time when foreign journalists are barred from Gaza.
