The Edmonton-made documentary The Perfect Match returns to the big screen for a free screening at the Triffo Theatre in MacEwan's Allard Hall.
Directed by Sandro Silva, the film follows a Ghanaian father in Edmonton who, after his toddler son's long fight with a rare cancer, goes from event to event urging young Black Canadians to join the stem cell registry, often running up against deep mistrust of the medical system. Fewer than two per cent of donors on the Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry are Black, and patients are more likely to find a match from donors of similar ancestry.
The screening is followed by a Q&A with the director and people featured in the film, then a reception with light refreshments and a DJ in the Allard Hall atrium.
