Horizon Drive-In Hits Edmonton This Week: Here's What's Playing

Your car, a giant screen, and all the snacks you can eat. Alberta's pop-up drive-in parks in Edmonton for two nights this week, Thursday August 13 and Friday August 14, with a double feature each night. Tickets are $15 a person per movie. Here's the full lineup and everything you need to know before you pull in.

Thursday, August 13: Footloose and 21 Jump Street

Kevin Bacon dance-rages in a barn, then Channing Tatum goes back to high school. Night one opens with Footloose, the 1984 original, all synth and small-town moral panic and that one warehouse scene everybody quotes. Then it swings hard into 21 Jump Street, which is loud, filthy and still the funniest thing either of its leads has done. Bring the kids for the first one. Reconsider for the second.

Friday, August 14: The Greatest Showman and IT

Night two starts with The Greatest Showman, which you will sing along to whether you planned on it or not. Then, once it's properly dark, IT takes over. A killer clown in an open field with the windows down. You will lock your doors. That's the point.

Tickets and Prices

$15 per person, per movie. Same price at any age, plus GST and processing fees.

Two things that trip people up. First, there is no full-night pass. Each film is ticketed separately, so a double feature is $30 a person. Second, kids five and under get in free, which makes the early show a cheap night out for a family.

You can pay cash, debit or credit at the gate unless the show sells out online first, so buying ahead is the safe play. If a friend already inside wants to join your car, they still have to come through the front gate and pay.

Know Before You Go

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes early. Parking is first come, sorted by vehicle type, and there's no reserving a spot. Show up late and you're watching from the back.

Audio comes through your FM radio. Bring a battery-powered one if you'd rather not idle. They sell portable radios at the concession and give free boosts if your battery dies anyway.

Set your parking brake to kill your daytime running lights. If that doesn't work, cover the headlights. Nobody wants to be that car.

Bring a lawn chair. You can sit outside, but only in front of your own vehicle.

Leave the cooler at home. Gate money covers the film licensing, so concession sales are what keep the thing running. Support the canteen.

Dogs are welcome, leashed outside the car, and you clean up after them.

Rain or shine. They only cancel for genuinely unsafe weather, and they post it on social first. Washrooms are portable, so plan accordingly.
