Curious Brews, Edmonton's monthly science lecture series in a bar setting, turns to event accessibility this month at MKT Fresh Food | Beer Market.
Brooke Leifso, Research Chair in Inclusion and Accessibility at NorQuest College, draws on her work with the Citadel Theatre, the Edmonton International Fringe Festival and others to show how events can be made accessible in ways that are practical and low-cost. The talk covers transferable strategies for any gathering, clear communication around constraints, and how inclusive design benefits the whole community.
The evening opens with a social hour where guests can order food and drinks and browse media and artwork from Leifso's performance projects. The lecture and Q&A follow at 7 pm, then door prizes and optional networking.
The lounge is upstairs and reachable only by stairs, so a live Zoom option with captioning and moderated Q&A is available by email. The event is 18+.
