Churchill Square is trading its usual look for something a little more cosmic. Galactic Atmosphere fills the downtown plaza with enormous illuminated planets, some stretching up to 30 feet across, turning an evening stroll into a walk through the solar system.
Presented by Cloud Nine Group in partnership with the City of Edmonton, the space-themed light art festival blends art, science and community under the night sky. The glowing spheres come from a Calgary-based studio that builds large-scale planetary installations for festivals and events across the province.
It’s free to wander through, and the planets make for some of the best photo ops downtown this fall. Pair it with a stop at Light the Way on nearby Rice Howard Way, or catch the Art Gallery of Alberta’s extended hours on opening night.
