Join the who’s who in Canada’s humanities and social sciences community at the 30th anniversary gala of The Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, taking place during the Big Thinking Summit 2026 in Edmonton.
The Federation’s 30th Anniversary Gala: At the Inflection Point will recognize the people, ideas, and collective efforts that have defined the Federation’s work over decades, while opening a conversation about where the humanities and social sciences community goes next.
The event will also serve as a platform to announce the winners of the prestigious 2026 Canada Prizes, awarded to five Canadian books in recognition of their inspiring, impactful, and transformative contributions.

Dr. Malinda S. Smith, Professor of Political Science and Associate Vice-President (Research) at the University of Calgary and award-winning scholar and public leader whose work spans international politics, equity, pluralism, and decolonization in higher education.
Stephen J. Toope, President and CEO of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and one of Canada’s most distinguished academic leaders who was previously Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, President of the University of British Columbia, Director of the Munk School of Global Affairs, and a senior advisor with the United Nations.
EMCEE: Corey Loranger, actor, TV host, and producer whose work has helped shape Alberta’s Francophone film and television landscape. Co-founder of Far West Productions and Calibou Films, he has produced award-winning screen projects seen nationally and internationally, while also earning recognition as an actor and host of major television programs and live events
