Ahead of the CPKC Women's Open, Victoria's throwing a Par-Tee pop-up — live music, food trucks, a pop-up BBQ, and free driving-range access all afternoon, all in support of women in golf. 2. Free Dirty Soda at Bountiful Market | Aug 1–3, Bountiful Market Utah's favourite sugar rush, on the house. Wink Sodas is pouring free dirty sodas — fizzy, creamy, fruity concoctions — at Bountiful Market all long weekend. Free parking, free sample, zero reason to say no. Roll through, sip, browse the stalls.

3. Summer Block Party at Rice Howard Way | Saturdays in August, downtown Downtown's easiest Saturday hang. Rice Howard Way closes to cars for live music, family activities, and low-key patio energy — the perfect breather between the big festivals. Free to wander in. Bring nothing but a thirst for a patio pint.

4. Sounds from the Valley | Tuesdays in August, Snow Valley Free live music at the bottom of a ski hill. Every Tuesday at 7, local EPL Capital City Records artists bring music, poetry, and visual art to the grass by Creekside Eats. Pack a lawn chair (it fills up fast), grab a snack, and drop a can in the food-bank bin. Leashed dogs welcome.

5. Free Admission at the Art Gallery of Alberta | Aug 27, 4–7 PM The AGA waives its usual $17 door charge one evening a month, and August's is Thursday the 27th. Three floors of contemporary and Alberta art, free from 4 to 7. It gets busy, so go early. Kids 17 and under get in free every day.

8. Free Tickets to the Meteor Shower Watch Party | Aug 15–16, Miquelon Lake Seven hours under a dark sky, zero light pollution, peak Perseids. Touch Grass Club runs dusk nature walks, campfire bannock, sky stories from Knowledge Keepers, telescopes, and long-exposure light painting to take home. MaKami's massage students work the chairs while the kids' zone runs face painting, games, and a balloon artist. Pancakes, fruit, refreshments — 9 AM to noon, nothing to buy. Roll up hungry.

13. Tree Planting in Silverberry | Aug 15, Silverberry Plant something that outlives you. The City's Root for Trees crew is putting native fruiting trees and shrubs in the ground in Silverberry — you dig, you learn how the urban forest actually works, and you leave with a free wildflower plant (and ice cream). Wear closed-toe shoes.

14. Discover a New Artist at the Highlands Art Walk | Highlands neighbourhood Original art, no gallery hush, no admission. The Highlands turns its leafy streets into an open-air market of local makers and painters — browse, chat, and buy straight from the person who made it.
