October starts early this year, a full two days before the weekend. This week brings free comedy, drag bingo, an after-hours chocolate factory tour, two new theatre openings and an adults-only night among the jack-o'-lanterns. Thursday is the big night, so plan around it.

Monday, September 28

• Free Rough Cut Comedy Night
  Free weekly stand-up in the basement room under the Starlite, with a new lineup each Monday and comics who've gone on to bigger stages. Seats go fast, so come early. 8:30–10:30 p.m., River City Revival

Tuesday, September 29

• Bentstick Drag Bingo with Gogo Fetch
  Gogo Fetch hosts bingo with mini-games, lip sync battles and a bit of trivia at Bent Stick Brewing. Coming solo is easy, since there's community seating for people on their own. 18+. 7:30–11:00 p.m., Bent Stick Brewing

Wednesday, September 30

• After Dark at Delavoye: A Factory Tour and Dessert Experience
  An after-hours look behind the scenes at Delavoye's bean-to-bar chocolate factory, capped at 8 to 10 guests. It starts with a welcome drink and ends with a chocolate dessert and cacao husk tea. 7:15–8:00 p.m., Delavoye Chocolate Maker

Thursday, October 1

• Cooking Class: Roll with It Sushi Basics
  Chef Kathryn Joel shows you how to get sushi rice right, then you roll maki and uramaki and press flamed aburi oshizushi with fillings like ahi tuna, salmon and BBQ eel. You'll roll more than you can eat, so bring a container. 6:00–9:00 p.m., Get Cooking

• Electric Elton
  Sean Trombley plays 1970s-era Elton at the piano, backed by a fully live band, dancers and plenty of costume changes. Expect Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Crocodile Rock and the rest of the big ones. 7:00–9:00 p.m., Winspear Centre

• Fun Home
  NUOVA Vocal Arts and Fringe Theatre open their production of the Tony-winning musical, based on Alison Bechdel's graphic memoir about piecing together the life of her complicated father. Runs through Sunday. Opens 7:30 p.m., Westbury Theatre

• I Don't Even Miss You
  Elena Belyea's one-person show about a programmer who wakes up to find everyone they love gone, told as a synth concert with home videos, iPhone footage and a digital assistant named Orchid. It opens the Fringe's Prairie Mainstage Series and runs to October 11. Opens 8:00 p.m., Nordic Studio Theatre

• Pumpkins After Dark: Adult Only Night
  Borden Park's pumpkin trail goes 18+ for the night, with a licensed area and live entertainment among the carved pumpkins. Your $28.61 ticket covers timed entry and the maze. 7:30–10:00 p.m., Borden Park
