Cheap Things to Do in Edmonton, November 2026

Under $100 Art Show

Every piece at this show costs less than $100, so it’s possible to leave with original art and still have money for dinner. Local artists fill the floor with paintings, photography, textiles, ceramics, mixed media and handmade accessories, and there’s live music all weekend.

General admission tickets are timed to keep lines down, but once you’re in, you can stay as long as you like. For first dibs, the VIP ticket adds a guided tour of the Backroom, where you can buy fresh pieces before they reach the show floor.

  • When: November 5 to 8 (opening night Thursday 5 to 10 PM, separate ticket; Friday to Sunday 11 AM to 7 PM)

  • Where: 10310 102 Ave NW

  • Cost: $14.75 to $20.03; kids 16 and under free

Curious Brews at MKT

Curious Brews is a monthly science talk series held in a bar, so you get a drink with your lecture. This month, U of A engineering professor Dr. Rashid Mirzavand presents tiny wireless sensors that never need a battery. They power themselves on radio waves from a nearby reader, which means they can be sealed into clothing, furniture or building walls and left there.

Arrive for the social hour to grab food and drinks in MKT’s upstairs lounge. Then stay for the talk, the Q&A and door prizes, and pitch your own ideas for where the tech should go next.

  • When: Tuesday, November 3, 6 to 9 PM (talk at 7 PM)

  • Where: MKT Edmonton, 8101 Gateway Blvd NW

  • Cost: $20

Irrational Science: Myth-Busting Affordable Housing

Irrational Science is taking over Irrational Brewing on 124 Street for a panel on one of Edmonton’s biggest debates. Frontline housing leaders and community advocates will compare the myths about affordable housing with the evidence. Topics include what a project actually does to a neighbourhood’s safety and property values, how housing designed for veterans and families leaving domestic violence works, and which solutions to the housing crisis are holding up.

Grab a pint and bring your questions. This one’s for curious neighbours, urban planning nerds and anyone who cares how the city grows.

  • When: Wednesday, November 4, 7 to 9 PM

  • Where: Irrational Brewing, 10643 124 St

  • Cost: $25

Winter Sauna Sessions: Slow Burn

For $10, Circa Thermal Studio will warm you up from the inside out. Slow Burn is a 35-minute guided sauna session in a wood-fired sauna in Whitemud Park. A Circa guide leads you through gradually building heat, waves of aromatic steam and slow music, with a cooling break outside in the winter air before a final round of steam. It’s unhurried, with nothing to push through, and you don’t need any sauna experience.

Bring swimwear, water and something warm to change into afterward. Capacity is kept small, so book early.

  • When: Thursday, November 5, 6 PM

  • Where: Alfred H. Savage Centre, Whitemud Park, 13204 Fox Dr NW

  • Cost: $10

Where We Are Opening Party

St. Albert artist Kelly Dean is celebrating her first solo exhibition with an opening party at Wild Skies Art Gallery. Where We Are brings together abstract landscapes and florals painted over the last few years, each one done intuitively from a memory, a moment or a feeling. The landscapes are about a sense of place, and the florals are about the passing of time.

You can meet the artist, hear the story behind the work and take in the paintings. The gallery is on the second floor of the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel, a venue most people have never thought to visit.

  • When: Thursday, November 5, 7 to 8:30 PM

  • Where: Wild Skies Art Gallery, Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel, 4236 36 St E

  • Cost: Free

Horizon Drive-In Carload Nights

On carload nights you pay one price for the whole car, so pack everyone in. Horizon Drive-In is screening a triple feature each night at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. Thursday has Moana, Back to the Future and Smile. Friday has Indiana Jones, Grease and Annabelle. Part of every ticket goes to the Valley Zoo Development Society.

Bring blankets and snacks, or pre-order from concessions and use the express pickup lane. Plan to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before showtime, because parking is first come, first served.

  • When: Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6

  • Where: Edmonton Valley Zoo, 13315 Buena Vista Rd NW

  • Cost: $32 per carload

CAMPUS Open House: ReForm Market + Makerspace Launch

The team behind Vignettes has started a new art and design society called CAMPUS, and it’s opening with a launch party for its first project. The ReForm Market + Makerspace pop-up is all about creative reuse: taking discarded materials and turning them into things worth keeping.

You can try sample workshop stations, browse small interactive art displays and see how the makerspace will run. There’s food, drinks and plenty of local creatives to meet. Reformed home goods and mending kits are available to take home, which is a good start on giving your own castoffs a second life.

Pottery Tile Project: Nature and Heritage of Our Home

This free workshop lets you make a tile for a public mural. CAVA is building an outdoor clay mural on its Bonnie Doon gallery as part of a province-wide art project, and you can help make it. You don’t need any experience, and all materials are supplied. When the mural is finished, your tile goes up on the gallery’s outside walls.

  • When: Saturday, November 7, 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM

  • Where: CAVA, 9103 95 Ave NW

  • Cost: Free

Bed By 10

Bed By 10 is a club night for people who love to dance but don’t want to give up their Sunday. The resident DJ plays ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s club classics, with big visuals, confetti drops and CO2 cannons. The party starts at 4 PM and wraps early enough that you’re home and in bed by 10.

Get there on time, because last entry is 5 PM. It’s a DJ-only night, so the artists in the event artwork won’t be performing. Want more nights out? See what’s coming up in concerts.

Dark Side of Money featuring Jill Poulton

When you tell someone you’re struggling with money, they usually ask about your budget. Dark Side of Money takes a different approach: the budget is where money trouble shows up, not where it starts. On Remembrance Day, host Rheanna Height talks with Jill Poulton about the shame, pride and old beliefs behind our money decisions, and how to tell when fear is the one making the call. Poulton is a military veteran, a former banker and a coach who works with Edmonton’s veteran community.

It isn’t a budgeting workshop, and nobody will ask about your numbers. The talk is for veterans and civilians alike, and for anyone who’s left the mail unopened or walked out of a bank feeling judged.

  • When: Wednesday, November 11, 7 to 9 PM

  • Where: The Bell in Scona, 10416 80 Ave NW

  • Cost: Free

Aunt Hazel’s Annual Christmas Party: A Murder Mystery

Imagine Clue crossed with Dungeons & Dragons, set at a holiday party. Aunt Hazel’s neighbourhood Christmas bash takes a deadly turn, and every guest becomes an investigator. You roll dice to unlock clues, search the room for hidden evidence and work the crowd, because the information you need is probably in someone else’s hands. Not everyone will tell you everything they know.

Doors open at 6 PM so you can order food and drinks and meet your fellow players, and the game runs from 7 to 9. It’s a good pick for board game fans, tabletop roleplayers or anyone who wants a holiday night out that’s a little different.

  • When: Thursday, November 12, 6 to 9 PM

  • Where: The Canadian Brewhouse, 6093 Currents Dr NW
